GDITA - Extreme IT in Iraq and Afghanistan |
11:30 AM
|
|
Do you ever think that your IT environment is chaotic?
Sponsored by: KForce Technology Staffing
During the annual WPAFB update - three war zone veterans will share their IT experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan under truly hostile conditions. The discussion should be both informative and entertaining.
Major William J. "Spike" Riley has over 800 days of deployment to the Iraq theater. Lieutenant Keith Hauenstein was recently deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, where he served as a mentor to the Afghan Army’s only mobile strategic communications unit. Staff Sergeant Lloyd "Tre" Parkmond was a direct mentor to a 209th Afgan National Army unit.
Col. Joe Zeis (Ret.) of the Dayton Development Coalition will present an update on the State of Ohio's and Dayton region's response to the Air Force's RFI for the new Cyber Command HQ. Come here how our region is positioned and it's potential to be a part of the Command.
Major Spike Riley is currently a Command Strategic Planner in the A8/9 Directorate, Headquarters Air Force Materiel Command, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. He develops Command vision, mission, goals, objectives, the strategy map and strategic management process. He guides and assists the establishment of functional, center, and wing strategic plans and governance processes in support of $47B worth of AFMC assets. He evaluates Department of Defense, Joint, and AF plans, policies, and doctrine from weapon system development to sustainment. He also facilitates the development of financial, operational and strategic standards, measures and criteria.
Among his other many assignments in the Air Force, Major Riley deployed as Director of Communications, 9th Air Expeditionary Group, Ali Al Salem AB, Kuwait; Chief, Frequency Management Office, Combined Joint Task Force Seven, Camp Victory, Iraq; Multinational Force Iraq, Deputy Chief, Theater IA; and Multinational Corps Iraq, Coalition Communications Focal Point.
Lieutenant Keith Hauenstein is the Officer in Charge of the Network Control Center, Information Technology Solution Branch, Networks Division, Communications and Information Directorate, National Air and Space Intelligence Center (NASIC), Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. NASIC is the Air Force analysis center for foreign air, space and specialized intelligence. He is responsible for maintaining the integrity, security and availability of numerous communications networks directly supporting 2,700 personnel providing a broad range of integrated, tailored assessments, products and services to joint operational forces, national policymakers, and the acquisition community.
SSgt Lloyd "Tre'" Parkmond was a direct mentor to a 209th Afghan National Army (ANA) Captain and five NCOs. Part of SSgt. Parkmond’s duties was to help them run their Communications shop more efficiently. The ANA soldiers lack of understanding on how equipment worked and more importantly how to maintain the equipment was an enormous problem. Through the mentoring process he was able to teach them how to use and take care of their IT assets. Their help desk did not have any useful method in place to track the items they took in for repairs or any method of tracking the work they were doing. Missing equipment or equipment being returned to the wrong people was very common. Based on these and several other facts he wrote the first Standard Operating Procedures for the 209th ANA comm. shop, which was immediately endorsed and implemented after review.

Go Bucks! Beat USC!! |
8:00 PM
|
|
As a devout Buckeye that attended high school in Southern California, Platform Lab Director Steve Gruetter has a special place in his heart for the University of Spoiled Children.
Suffering two Rose Bowl losses in person, while dealing with insufferable fans and the singular worst marching band in the history of our planet, gives Steve the experience necessary to work up a comprehensive distaste for all that is Trojan – the repetitive fight song, the shambles of a stadium, the house they bought for Reggie Bush’s parents, the mascot, the horse, especially the band and yes - even the cheerleaders.
This concludes all thoughts about U$C that are fit for this publication.
